The 'Explorers'
Our Explorer room is where minds blossom and imaginations soar! Our explorer room is designed for children aged 2 to 5 years but this can vary depending on each child's development. Our nurturing approach fosters creativity, exploration and learning both indoors and outdoors. With a safe and exciting outdoor space accessible on a daily basis your child will develop a love for the outdoors. Both our indoor and outdoor play areas promote the development of social skills, curiosity and a love for learning. In our Explorers room we expand on the 3 areas of learning which we begin to develop in our cruiser room. This curriculum is known as the Early Years Foundation Stage (The EYFS)
The EYFS covers seven key areas, divided into Prime and Specific areas:
Prime Areas:
-
Communication and Language
-
Physical Development
-
Personal, Social and Emotional Development.
Specific Areas:
-
Literacy
-
Mathematics

What It Means for Your Child
-
Activities tailored to support all areas of development
-
A strong focus on learning through play and exploration
-
Regular assessments to support individual progress
-
A safe and nurturing environment
During your time in the Explorer ’s room parents and carers will take part in the ‘Two year progress check’. This is a written summary of each child’s development in the three prime learning and development areas of the EYFS. Together strengths, achievements and any possible concerns are identified enabling any additional support to be put in place at an Early stage so your child has the best possible outcomes.

Personal, Social & Emotional Development
PSED
Children thrive through positive relationships& positive interactions. Children are happier, more confident and independent when they know they are truly cared for. Each child has a dedicated key person developing a special bond. We provide a fun & safe environment for each child to play & learn in whilst supporting them to make friends

Communication & Language
C & L
Sunny Days provides rich and exciting activities to develop each child’s communication skills. Children enjoy daily stories & rhymes and have a large selection of books, puppets and music readily available to encourage children to develop their language. Our strong emphasis on positive relationships with staff & other children provides a solid foundation for them to develop their abilities. We give our children opportunities to experience a rich language environment; to develop their confidence and skills in expressing themselves; and to speak and listen in a range of situations.

Physical Development
PD
Sunny Days provides opportunities for young children to be active and interactive; and to develop their co-ordination, control, and movement. Children must also be helped to understand the importance of physical activity, and to make healthy choices in relation to food. Children are able to freely choose where they learn best with Free Flow outdoor play which allows our children to learn in a natural environment.
Children like to move and be active, we encourage healthy lifestyles. Our environments both indoors and out are spacious and exciting.
Children have access to the outdoors on a daily basis. Children are taught express themselves through movement and discover the natural world and the wonders it holds.

Literacy
Lit
At Sunny Days we encourage Literacy development development by involving & encouraging children to link sounds and letters and to begin to read and write. Children are given access to a wide range of reading materials (books, poems, and other written materials) to ignite their interest.

Mathematics
Maths
Our play and teaching involves providing children with opportunities to develop and improve their skills in counting, understanding and using numbers, calculating simple addition and subtraction problems; and to describe shapes, spaces, and measure

Understanding The World
UTW
To develop children's awareness of the world we guid children to make sense of their physical world and their community. We do this through opportunities to explore, observe and find out about people, places, technology and the environment.

Expressive Arts & Designs
EAD
We provide the support, guidance and fun to explore the arts. This involves enabling children to explore and play with a wide range of media and materials, as well as providing opportunities and encouragement for sharing their thoughts, ideas and feelings through a variety of activities in art, music, movement, dance, role-play, and design and technology.
